Riders senior standout Cory Schilling has verbally committed to further his education and baseball career at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Augustana is a well known powerhouse at the NCAA Division II level, winning the National Title in 2018. They are the farthest team North to ever win the Division II crown. They compete in the NSIC Conference and have posted 12 straight seasons of 30 or more wins. Augustana is coached by veteran skipper Tim Huber, who has collected many accolades of his own. Augustana has appeared in the NCAA Tournament 5 times during his tenure. Schilling becomes the 2nd Rider in as many years to join the Augustana baseball program, joining teammate Jason Fink who is currently enrolled as a freshman.

Coach Huber on Schilling: We are excited to see how Cory’s tools progress over the next couple of years. We like athletic guys who run well and he fits that mold. His bat tool we are very excited about and project him to have a chance to be a middle of the order hitter. Sticking with tools, he has a lot of arm strength and in addition to looking good throwing it across the infield, we will give him a chance to develop on the mound and see if he can have a role as a pitcher also. Cory is an Augie guy; great student, hard worker, and a great fit for our program.

Schilling has played for the Riders for 3 years and has been in the Post 42 program for 6 years. Schilling broke onto the scene in 2021 when as a sophomore he led the team in hits with 87. That year he also slugged 21 doubles, 6 triples, and drove in 55. Last summer Schilling was equally impressive, hitting .355 with 89 hits, 19 doubles, 6 triples and 3 home-runs. He drove in 72 runs and scored another 70 runs. Schilling was rewarded for his efforts by being named to the 2022 Wyoming Legion “AA” First Team All-State List.

Coach Perleberg on Schilling: “There are so many positive attributes that Cory Schilling brings to our baseball team. First of all, what stands out to me about Cory is his work-ethic. Cory’s dedication to be the best that he can be day in and day out is truly inspiring. Being a successful baseball player takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Cory is truly a cage rat, and can be found nightly working on his craft in our Indoor Facility or lifting in the gym. Another thing that really stands out about Cory is his toughness and reliability. Throughout his Riders career, Cory has been the definition of the “Iron Man” for our team, playing in 160 of 161 games over the last 2 seasons. Finally, Cory is a great ambassador for our program. He is a leader both on and off the field and is a positive role model to many youngsters. Cory is the type of person that makes a positive impact on everything that he’s involved in and will be a great addition to Coach Huber’s program.

The Riders Baseball family would like to congratulate Cory on this great achievement and for his years of hard work and dedication to our program. We are looking forward to watching Cory finish his senior season in a Riders jersey, as well as his future years as a Viking. Cory attends Thunder Basin High School and is the son of Trevor and Jodi Schilling.
