Jason Fink verbally commits to Augustana University
Riders senior right-hander Jason Fink has verbally committed to further his education and baseball career at Augustana University in Sioux Falls SD. Augustana is a well known powerhouse at the NCAA Division II level, winning the National Title in 2018. They are the farthest team North to ever win the Division II crown. They compete in the NSIC Conference and have posted 11 straight seasons of 30 or more wins. Augustana is coached by veteran skipper Tim Huber, who has collected many accolades of his own.
Fink has been on the Riders for 3 years and in the Post 42 program for 6 years. As a sophomore in 2020, Fink had a breakout season on the mound for the Riders, compiling a 9-1 record with a 2.19 ERA. His efforts earned him 2nd Team All-State recognition. In 2021, Fink once again put together a nice season with a 4-7 record, while leading the team in saves with 3. He struck out a remarkable 99 batters in just 68 innings pitched. In 2021, Fink also was the Riders starting first baseman and hit .288 with 11 doubles, while driving in 44 runs.
Coach Perleberg on Fink: “It’s always rewarding to see guys, such as Jason who set goals and work so hard in your program to achieve their goals. He has always been a very goal-oriented kid. Baseball is not a 3-4 month sport for Jason, he commits year round and truly loves the grind and trying to make himself better. I remember last year an hour after Camel basketball games, seeing his car parked at our indoor facility getting his work in. On top of his work ethic, he is a great kid and model for our program in the classroom and off the field. Jason has shown the ability to dominate at times on the mound and has an extremely high ceiling as far as room to grow. The ball jumps out of his hand, has great downward angle, and mechanically for a guy of his size, he is really smooth and consistent with his delivery. I’m beyond excited to work another summer with Jason and see his progress not only this year, but in the future as a Viking as well!”
The Riders Baseball family would like to congratulate Jason on this great achievement and for his years of hard work and dedication to our program. We are looking forward to watching Jason finish his senior season in a Riders jersey, as well as his future years as a Viking. Jason attends Campbell County High School and is the son of Brian and Robyn Fink.
